Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about buying, selling, marketplace fees, payments and auctions on Fragrance Resale.

Buying & Marketplace Fees

What can I buy on Fragrance Resale?

Shop eligible new and pre-owned designer, niche, luxury, vintage, discontinued, rare and collectible fragrances, including partial bottles, testers, decants and samples where permitted.

How much is the Buyer Marketplace Fee?

For items priced at $10.00 or less, the fee is 15% of the final item sale price (for example, $0.75 on $5.00 or $1.50 on $10.00). For items over $10.00, the fee is $1.50 plus 5% of the amount above $10.00. A $100.00 item has a $6.00 fee. Shipping and applicable taxes are excluded from the fee calculation.

Does the Buyer Marketplace Fee apply to auctions and offers?

Yes. The fee applies to Buy Now purchases, accepted Make Offer transactions and winning auction bids, using the final item sale price. For example, a $200.00 winning bid has an $11.00 Buyer Marketplace Fee.

Can I make an offer instead of paying the listed price?

Yes, when the seller enables Make Offer. You may submit an offer, and the seller may accept, decline or counter it.

How do I know who I am buying from?

Review the seller’s public profile, active listings and seller rating. Check the listing’s photos, condition, fill level, shipping terms and return policy before purchasing.

What if I have questions about a fragrance?

Ask the seller before buying, offering or bidding. Confirm details such as authenticity, bottle condition, remaining quantity, packaging, batch information and shipping.

Can I return a fragrance?

Return and refund terms are generally set by the independent seller, subject to applicable law and payment-provider rules. Read the listing terms before purchasing.

Are vintage fragrances the same as when originally produced?

Not necessarily. Age, storage, temperature, light, oxidation and evaporation can change a fragrance’s scent, color, intensity, longevity and fill level. Review the description and photos carefully.

Selling on Fragrance Resale

How much does it cost to sell?

Standard listings are free, and Fragrance Resale charges 0% standard seller commissions. Sellers may still incur payment-processing charges, shipping costs and optional upgrade fees where applicable.

Does the Buyer Marketplace Fee reduce my sale price?

No. The Buyer Marketplace Fee is charged separately to the buyer. For a $100.00 item sale, the standard Fragrance Resale seller commission is $0.00; separate payment-processing and other costs may still apply.

What can I sell?

Eligible new, sealed, opened, partially used, vintage, discontinued and collectible fragrances may be listed. Accurately disclose condition, fill level, age-related issues, packaging and any flaws. Decants, samples and testers must be clearly identified and permitted by marketplace policies and applicable law.

Can I sell counterfeit or replica fragrances?

No. Counterfeit fragrances and counterfeit fragrance-related products are prohibited. Sellers must have a reasonable basis for representing an item as authentic.

Do I have to use an auction?

No. Choose Buy Now, enable Make Offer where available, or create a Live Online Auction.

Can I set a Reserve Price?

Where available, a reserve lets you set the minimum price you are willing to accept in an auction.

Can I list more than one fragrance?

Yes. You may create multiple eligible listings. Buyers can browse your active listings from your seller profile.

What is a Seller Profile and Seller Rating?

Your seller profile displays your active listings and seller rating. A rating helps buyers evaluate your marketplace history as you complete transactions.

Payments, Protection & Authenticity

How do sellers get paid?

Sellers and buyers follow the payment instructions and supported methods shown for the transaction. PayPal is recommended when available; eligible offline methods may also be offered by sellers. Payment-provider fees, processing and payout terms depend on the method used.

Should new sellers offer PayPal?

We recommend offering PayPal when available, especially while establishing a seller rating. Eligible purchases may qualify for PayPal Purchase Protection under PayPal’s terms. Offering PayPal is recommended, not required.

What does PayPal Purchase Protection cover?

Eligible transactions may qualify for claims such as Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described. PayPal determines eligibility, deadlines, evidence requirements and claim outcomes under its terms. Not every PayPal payment is covered.

Does PayPal protect sellers too?

PayPal offers Seller Protection for certain eligible transactions and claims, subject to its terms, exclusions and documentation requirements. Sellers should verify payment independently and follow applicable tracking and shipping requirements.

Can sellers accept Stripe?

Fragrance Resale uses Stripe for its buyer marketplace-fee processing. Do not assume that Stripe is an available method for paying the seller for the item; follow the payment options shown on the listing or checkout.

Does Fragrance Resale authenticate every fragrance?

No. Authenticity is required and counterfeits are prohibited, but Fragrance Resale does not independently authenticate every listed item. Review seller details and item photos before purchasing.

Auctions, Shipping & Orders

Can I bid on fragrances?

Yes. Eligible fragrances may be offered through Live Online Auctions. Winning bids are generally binding, so review the listing before bidding.

What happens when someone bids near the auction end?

A qualifying bid during the final two minutes may automatically extend the auction so approximately two minutes remain for additional bidding.

Who pays for shipping?

The seller sets shipping terms and charges in the listing. Buyers should review those costs before committing.

Are there special shipping rules for fragrances?

Yes. Alcohol-containing fragrances can be subject to carrier and transportation restrictions. Sellers are responsible for compliant packaging, labeling and shipping, including any applicable carrier requirements.

What should a seller do before shipping?

Independently confirm payment through the relevant provider or agreed method, verify the shipping address and use tracking when appropriate. Do not rely solely on payment-confirmation emails.
